Former Lion Jeff Walker, who was an All-WCC selection for LMU in 2000, will return to the bluff for his first season as an assistant coach under head coach Jason Gill, it was announced earlier this week. Coach Walker will work primarily with the outfielders and hitters, as well as assist in strength and conditioning and recruiting.

Prior to coming to Loyola Marymount, Walker spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif. During this time, Ohlone qualified for the State Playoffs, led the state in stolen bases, and was one of the best hitting teams in the California. Before going to Ohlone, Walker spent five years serving as both the Athletics Director and head varsity baseball coach at Saratoga High School in Saratoga, Calif. In just his first year as head coach, Walker guided Saratoga, which had finished the previous season in last place after winning just six games all year, to the CIF/Central Coast Section Playoffs.

As Athletics Director, Walker won the 2005 Central Coast Section Athletic Director of the Year award, overseeing the fundraising and development of the school’s athletic fields. Before leaving Saratoga, he was a member of the Athletics Director Advisory Committee, and Chairman of the Baseball Committee for the CCS.

In addition to coaching at Ohlone and Saratoga, Walker has spent three summers coaching in NCAA-sanctioned leagues. In 2002, he served as an assistant coach and hitting coach for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plains League in Hampton, Va. Walker later worked in the same capacity for the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League in 2007 and 2008. The summer in the Coastal Plains saw the Pilots advance to the playoffs, while 11 players from the 2007 Anchorage squad would eventually be taken in the Major League Baseball draft, including all three starting outfielders. In 2008, the Bucs led the Alaskan League in hitting and produced the League’s Silver Slugger award recipient.

Walker earned his bachelors degree in history from LMU. He earned two letters in baseball, earning All-Conference honors and helping lead the Lions to a West Coast Conference title and a No. 6 National Ranking in 2000. Before transferring to LMU, Walker played two seasons at Canada College in Redwood City, Calif. There, he earned All-American and All-Conference accolades. Jeff helped lead the Colts to back-to-back Conference titles and a Final Four appearance in 1998. He currently holds school single-season records for homeruns (18) and hit by pitches (35). Walker played single summer seasons in the Northwest Collegiate League, Northwoods League and Alaska Baseball League. He was selected as a League All-Star in 1998 and 1999, playing in the Northwest Collegiate League and Northwoods League, respectively.

Walker is single and resides in El Segundo, Calif
