Lions to begin intrasquad games in week Two

HAMMOND – With one week of fall practice under the team’s belt, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball coaching staff turns its attention from teaching the squad its fundamental system to evaluating the potential 2009 squad.

Week one focused on Southeastern’s newcomers cutting their teeth on the Lions’ system with the returnees getting a refresher course on all things Lion baseball. However, the Lion coaching staff will switch gears heading into week two.

“The first week went well,” head coach Jay Artigues said. “We focused on teaching the system to all the new guys and making sure all our returners still had a handle on things. Now we get to advance into intrasquad games here in the second week. It gives us a chance to evaluate where our new guys are and how they handle themselves in a gametime environment.”

With intrasquad games starting Monday, the Lions will look to see what their new additions have been able to grasp early on in fall practice, as well as see where their returnees are entering the second week of fall camp.

The Lions will continue with intrasquad games until the end of the fall season, which will conlcude with the 2008 Southeastern Fall World Series.
