Old Dominion’ Buss Homer Lifts Monarchs Past Alumni, 5-0

Junior infielder Chris Buss slammed a three-run homer, and ODU pitchers held the Alumni to just three hits in the 5-0 victory for the Varsity Saturday afternoon. Over 38 former Monarch players and managers were on hand for the weekend festivities which included a golf outing and the alumni game.

With the Monarch varsity leading 1-0, Buss hit his homerun to left center field with Two aboard to give ODU a 4-0 lead. Sophomore catcher Edgar Hernandez sacrifice Fly plated the Monarchs fifth and final run in the fourth inning. ODU starter Cory Toth picked up the win.

Former Monarch standouts who attended the weekend included Hall of Famers Tony Zontini and Tony Morris.Two-time All-American and former major leaguer Tim Hummel, 1999 ODU Scholar Athlete of the Year Ben Hamlett, and Bud Metheny award winner Gary Wright,
