The Cal-State Bakersfield University baseball team will begin play in 2009 under Bill Kernan. The team will be compromised of 12 incoming juniors with 13 freshmen coming into the program. The juniors are all transfers from Junior Colleges around the west coast and the incoming freshmen class is highly regarded around the College Baseball world. You can check out the full recruiting classes at the bottom of this article.
It seems to me that Kernan was the best choice to bring the Cal-State Bakersfield program into existence with his experience at Cal-State Northridge where he led the Matadors in their transition from Division 2 to Division 1. He ended up leading them to West Regional Championship game and a top ten ranking in their first year of playing Division 1 baseball. He ended up with a career record of 240-153-1 record during his seven seasons in charge of the Matadors program.
