Coach Prado on Tuesday’s Live Chat

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, University of South Florida head baseball coach Lelo Prado will be a special guest on the online live chat at the weekly press luncheon.

Prado, who will be available for questions from 12:15 – 12:45 p.m., will provide insight on the beginning of fall ball as well as the team outlook for the 2009 season. FULL STORY

Jaworski receives Academic All-America plaque

Northwestern State baseball standout Mike Jaworski received his 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team plaque in a ceremony Saturday evening at Turpin Stadium

Jaworski earned second-team Academic All-America recognition last May by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Jaworski, a 2007 graduate who played as a graduate student last spring, is now coaching in south Louisiana. He was given his plaque in a pregame ceremony before the NSU football game last Saturday, congratulated by NSU academic coordinator for athletics Jodie Heinicka, athletics director Greg Burke and head baseball coach J.P. Davis during the on-field presentation. FULL STORY

Oregon State Baseball Set For Scrimmage Thursday

Fans wanting the chance to take a look at the 2009 Oregon State baseball team will have an opportunity to do so Thursday prior to the Beavers’ football game against No. 1 USC. The baseball team will scrimmage Thursday for approximately two hours beginning at 1 p.m. at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

The workout will continue the team’s set of fall practices at Goss Stadium. Fourteen new players dot the fall roster in an attempt to be on the 35-man roster for the 2009 season. Oregon State opens its 2009 season on Feb. 20 at Tennessee in the opener of a three-game series. FULL STORY

Kansas State Baseball Begins Fall Preparations

Coming off a trip to the 2008 Big 12 Championship title game, the Kansas State baseball team will begin fall practices on Monday in preparation for the 2009 baseball season.

K-State will conduct 28 practices over the next five weeks, followed by a seven-game Fall World Series, which runs Monday, Oct. 27 through Tuesday, Nov. 4. FULL STORY

Diamond Heels Open Fall Practice Monday

Carolina returns 22 letterwinners off last year’s CWS squad.

The University of North Carolina baseball program opens fall team practice Monday with 22 letterwinners, including three All-America selections, back in the fold from last season’s College World Series squad. With the new Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium still under construction, the Tar Heels will split fall practice between Cary’s USA Baseball National Training Complex and East Chapel Hill High School.

At the conclusion of fall practice, UNC will hold its annual Fall World Series, Nov. 3-5, in Cary. FULL STORY

University of South Alabama FALL BASEBALL REPORT: WEEK ONE

With the start of fall practice now a week in the past, it’s time for the first edition of the USA Fall Baseball Report.

First, some ground rules. It’s important to note that even though statistics from scrimmages will be used in the report, they are unofficial.

If you’ve never been to a fall scrimmage, there are a few things that might surprise you. These scrimmages are organized, but they are not as structured as regular games. Players not participating in that day’s game act as umpires, pitchers can sometimes pitch for both teams in the same game, and if a player needs to get his running in, he does so on the warning track – even during play.
