NICHOLLS STATE BASEBALL BEGINS FALL PRACTICE SESSIONS

With 15 returners and 23 newcomers, the Colonel baseball team took to the field for the first time this week in preparation for the 2009 season.

“I think we’ve had three really good practices to open the fall and the thing that is really evident about this team already is that we definitely have team speed,” remarked head coach Chip Durham. “We have position players who can really run and that makes us feel really good about being in a situation where, as we continue to develop over the fall, we really have a chance to play defense well.”

Nicholls will continue with regular practice sessions through the 45-day fall workout period, practicing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m. and holding intrasquad games on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., Fridays at 3 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. FULL STORY

Kansas Baseball Opens Fall Practice

Kansas head baseball coach Ritch Price will open his seventh season with the Jayhawks today when the team begins fall practice at Hoglund Ballpark. The team will work out an average of six times a week through the first week of November.

The team will hold its parents’ weekend today through Sunday, and will practice Tuesday through Sunday most weeks. The Jayhawks take a fall break from Oct. 15 to Oct. 19, before resuming the final three weeks of practice on Oct. 20.

Kansas will return 17 letterwinners, including five position starters from last year’s squad, which finished 30-27 overall and 9-18 in the Big 12. FULL STORY

USD Baseball Releases Fall Schedule

The USD Toreros will hold 12 intra-squad games this October-November as part of its 2008 fall practice schedule. Fresh off a record-setting 2008 campaign that saw USD set a program-best 43 wins and reach the Regional Championship game, San Diego initiates preseason training on October 1st and will conclude its workouts on November 16th. LSU Baseball Freshmen Set to Make Impact

When LSU begins fall baseball practice on Sept. 25 in the original Alex Box Stadium, 10 true freshmen players will be poised to make a significant impact on the Tigers’ future.

The members of LSU’s talented signing class hope to help the Tigers make a second straight trip to the College World Series in June.

“We feel like this is an outstanding group of young men that will grow within our system and make significant contributions to the success of our program,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. “Seven of the 10 players are from Louisiana, and they’re now realizing a lifelong dream to play for the Tigers. I already see the potential for great leadership in this class; it’s a group that will be here for 3-4 years and become a tremendous asset to LSU Baseball.” FULL STORY

Rebel Baseball To Open Fall Practice On Friday

The Ole Miss baseball team will take to the practice field for the first time this fall when the Rebels open fall practice at Oxford High School on Friday. The Rebels will practice at Oxford High while renovations to Oxford-University Stadium are completed for the upcoming season. FULL STORY

2008 Cal Baseball Bullpen Club Golf Classic and Alumni Game Set

The California Baseball Program would like to remind its supporters and former players of its plans for the 2008 Alumni Weekend, Oct. 25-27.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, former Cal baseball players and supporters are invited to the Cal versus UCLA football game at Memorial Stadium (time TBA). On Sunday, Oct. 26, the annual Cal Baseball Alumni Game will be held at Evans Diamond at 12 p.m. and will feature former Golden Bear players versus the 2008-09 Cal Baseball Team.

On Monday, Oct. 27 the Bullpen Club Golf Classic will be held at the Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif. beginning at 10 a.m. with check in at 8:30 a.m. The tournament is open to both men and women and the deadline for tournament entry is October 1. The tournament will be strictly limited to 144 players. FULL STORY
