Kyle Padgett has joined the Wake Forest baseball staff as the team’s new volunteer assistant coach, head baseball coach Rick Rembielak announced on Tuesday. Padgett replaces Marshall Canosa, who is now the pitching coach at Hofstra.
“We are very pleased to have Kyle join our program,” Rembielak said. “I think he has a very good background of playing and coaching, especially in the Cape Cod summer league. He will help us mainly with the catchers, and supplement us on the offensive side of the game.”
“I’m very excited to be at Wake Forest,” Padgett said. “It’s a great opportunity to join a program that is in one of the premier college baseball conferences. I’m looking forward to working with a great coaching staff that I can learn from and will help me grow as a coach.”
Padgett joins the Deacons after spending the past summer serving as an assistant coach for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Padgett worked with the infielders and hitters and was in charge of all field maintenance duties.
Padgett was a volunteer assistant coach for The College of William and Mary from August 2007-June 2008. While there, the Tribe compiled 36 wins, which is the second highest win total in school history. He was responsible for coaching the outfielders and assisted in coaching the William & Mary hitters, who compiled a .343 batting average in the 2008 season, ranking third in the NCAA.
Padgett also has coaching experience with the Williamsburg U15 All-Stars, serving as the head coach and leading the team to a 9-1 record.
A four year starter at shortstop for William and Mary, Padgett was twice named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week and was named to the preseason All-Conference Team in 2005 by Baseball America.
Padgett was drafted in the 18th round of the 2005 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Florida Marlins. He saw time with the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League, the New York Penn League Jamestown Jammers and the Gulf Coast League GCL Marlins.
A native of West Newton, Mass., Padgett graduated from William and Mary in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology.
