The starters are James Avery (Niagara) for Canada, Brett Anderson for USA.

8:15 PM PDT: Canada leads 3-0 after two innings. Emmanuel Garcia hit an RBI triple, then scored on a ground out by Michael Saunders.

8:35 PM: Canada leads 4-0 after three innings, and they are hitting Anderson at will. The fourth run came from an RBI single by Adam Stern (Nebraska). Great defensive play by Stubby Clapp (Texas Tech) at second base in the bottom of the third.

9 PM: Canada leads 4-2 after four innings. USA got on the board with a home run by Brian Barden (Oregon State), got the second run on an RBI single by John Gall (Stanford). Avery was replaced by R.J. Swindle (Charleston Southern).

9:15 PM: Canada leads 4-3 after five innings. Run #3 for USA came on an RBI double by Terry Tiffee.

9:35 PM: The score remains 4-3 after six. Brian Duensing (Nebraska) came in to replace Anderson, and Chris Reitsma replaced Swindle. Canada stranded a runner at third in the top of the inning.

10 PM: The USA took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back RBI doubles by Barden and Tiffee. Reitsma was replaced by Rheal Cormier (age 41).

10:20 PM: It’s still 5-4 after eight innings. Canada is down to three outs, and Duensing has retired all seven batters he has faced. Cormier was replaced by Tim Burton. Canada got a double play in the bottom of the eighth, but USA proceeded to load the bases with two hits and a walk. They left the bases loaded.

10:25 PM: 5-4 is the final score. Canada finally managed a hit off Duensing. Canada’s final batter, Clapp, hit a ball down the right-field line that was just foul, and would have tied the game had it been fair. He flied out on the next pitch. Duensing, who retired ten of the eleven batters he faced, gets the win. Canada now has three straight one-run losses, and the bullpen didn’t get it done in this one.
