The Chinese Taipei baseball squad opened up Olympic Play on Wednesday with a 5-0 victory over the Netherlands. They received a great start from Wei-Yan Chen who pitched seven shutout innings while only allowing three hits and striking out seven batters without allowing a run . Kai-Wen Cheng pitched the final two innings where he allowed one hit and a single walk. The offensive star for Taipei was rightfielder Chieh-Ming Chang who went two for three with two RBI on the evening. Shortstop Chih-Sheng Lin did not pick up a hit in his only official at bat but reached based on three walks where he came around and scored twice. Bryan Engelhardt was the only player to reach base twice for the Netherlands as he had a hit and reached on a walk. Chinese Taipei returns to action on Thursday when they square off against Japan while the Netherlands is back in action against the United States.
