Heading into the season’s final two weeks, the Brazos Valley Bombers bolstered their lineup with the additions of three players. Freddy Carmona, Danny Hernandez and Taylor Zambreski will look to provide the Bombers with talent and depth as they prepare to make a deep run in the TCL playoffs.

After transferring from Ranger College to Eastern New Mexico, Carmona quickly proved why he is such a highly touted player. Playing catcher and shortstop for the Greyhounds, Carmona put together a career season, leading the team in nearly every offensive category. The switch-hitter’s .397 batting average, eight home runs and 47 RBI were nothing short of spectacular, but his defensive ability will be vital as the Bombers enter the TCL Playoffs. Serving as the starting catcher, he threw out 17 of 36 potential base stealers and only committed five errors.

Serving as the Gators starting shortstop this past season, Hernandez immediately established himself as a cornerstone in San Jacinto’s infield, batting .277 and finishing third on the team in doubles with 12. Known for his exceptional defensive ability, the Temple High School product also has good speed on the base paths, stealing nine out of 10 bases last year. Although he is coming off his freshman season at San Jacinto, Hernandez has already caught the eyes of many Major League scouts, who have been impressed with his all-around ability and maturity at such a young age.

The jump from Aledo High School to Howard Payne University did not faze Zambreski, who lead his team with a .411 batting average and five home runs on his way to being named American Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year. Batting from the left side of the plate, he will provide the Bombers with flexibility and balance. With power hitters Nick Anders, Trey Sperring and Dustin Dickerson hitting behind him, Zambreski will give the Bombers the opportunity to increase their run production.
