SAN MARCOS – The Los Angeles Dodgers organization has agreed to terms with Texas State senior pitcher Josh Walter. The right-hander now becomes the third player from the 2008 baseball team to advance to the professional ranks, joining teammates Mike Hart and Thomas Field, who were both selected in the 2008 first-year player draft.

Walter signed June 27 with the Dodger club and went immediately to the Ogden Raptors, the Dodgers minor league affiliate in Ogden, Utah.

He made his first professional appearance July 1 against the Casper Ghosts (Colorado Rockies), pitching 2.0 innings and earning two strikeouts.

“I’m extremely excited,” Walter said. “I came here and it was like I fell in love with baseball all over again. The chance to play at this level really is a dream come true.”

While at Texas State, Walter recorded five saves, all of which came last season, taking over the eighth-place single-season record slot for the Bobcats. He also made 25 game appearances which ties the eighth-place mark as well, joining Scott Moore (2005) and Mark Davis (2003). Walter concluded the 2008 season with a 4.71 ERA and a 3-4 season record.

Walter will return to Texas State in the fall and will graduate in December 2008 with a degree in criminal justice.
