The Stanford Cardinal broke open a 5-5 tie with 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the opening game against Florida State in the College World Series.
The Cardinal struck first taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth and then added two more runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead 3-0. Florida State answered with two runs to close the gap to 3-2 before Stanford scored two runs in the top of the seventh to stretch the lead back to three runs at 5-2. Florida State answered with a three run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 5.
Stanford then exploded for 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to send the Seminoles to the losers’ bracket.
