Coastal Carolina 13 Alabama 10

Senior Tommy Balrdridge’s three-run shot over the center field fence capped off a seven-run eighth inning that finished a furious rally and lifted top-seeded Coastal Carolina to a dramatic 13-10 win over No. 3 Alabama in the winner’s bracket of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Conway Regional, May 31. With the win, the Chanticleers advance to the championship game Sunday at 7 p.m., taking on the winner of the Alabama/East Carolina elimination game at 1 p.m.

Coastal jumped on top early, as David Sappelt led off the game with a first-pitch home run over the right field fence, jump starting a three-run opening inning for the Chants. However, Alabama rallied for three of its own in the bottom of the stanza, including a two-run homer by Ross Wilson. CCU retook the lead in the top of the second after a failed pickoff attempt allowed Scott Woodward to score from first for a 4-3 advantage.
