2008 College World Series, Omaha, NE

The 64-team field for the 2008 Division I Baseball Championship was announced today. Miami is the overall #1 seed in the tournament. Two time defending national champion Oregon State was left out of the field despite winning five series over tournament participants including Arizona, ASU and Georgia. Selection Committee chair Larry Templeton cited some of Oregon State’s losses to lesser teams as one of the main reasons for their exclusion from the tournament. Oregon State is the first defending champion to not be included since the 1991 Georgia Bulldogs. The SEC will send nine teams which ties the NCAA record (also held by the SEC). The ACC has three of the top four national seeds (Miamai, UNC, FSU).
