CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina junior David Anderson (Lexington, S.C.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while Radford junior John Lloyd (Oak Hill, Va.) has been named New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played May 5-11, it was announced today by the League office.
Anderson had a monster power weekend in the Chanticleers’ three-game sweep of High Point, going 8-15 with five home runs, nine RBI and a 1.533 slugging percentage. Although hitless in the opener, he was intentionally walked in the 11th inning, a move that set up Tommy Baldridge’s game-winning single. Anderson then went 4-5 with three home runs, three runs scored and seven RBI in game two, and came back with a 4-5 effort with two homers and two RBI in the series finale. Anderson, believed to be the first Coastal player to hit three home runs in a game in the Chanticleers’ Division I history, also pitched two scoreless and hitless innings on Sunday with one strikeout. For the week, Anderson batted .533, posted an on-base average of .563 and tallied 23 total bases.
Lloyd went 1-0 with a save in three relief appearances last week for the Highlanders. He came in relief against James Madison and pitched four scoreless innings and allowed just one hit to pick up the victory as Radford rallied for the win. He pitched a scoreless frame in the Highlanders’ series opening win at Winthrop, then in game two against the Eagles, he entered in the eighth inning and got Radford out of a bases loaded jam before closing out Winthrop in the ninth inning for his first collegiate save. Lloyd’s line last week: 1-0, 1 Sv, 1.42 ERA, 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, .136 opponents’ batting average.
