Southland Conference Players of the Week 4/28

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Stephen F. Austin outfielder Noel Trevino and UTSA pitcher Ryan Proudfoot are awarded weekly honors. Trevino claims his second award on the year joining Mike Jaworski, Northwestern State and Trent Lockwood, UTSA as the only players in the SLC to receive two player of the week awards. Proudfoot is the third UTSA pitcher to receive the weekly award marking the fifth consecutive for UTSA.

HITTER

Noel Trevino, SFA, Sr., OF, Fort Worth, Texas

Trevino was moved into the leadoff spot for the ‘Jacks this week and responded with a week that raised his batting average 28 points. He had multiple hits in each of SFA’s three games for the week, and just came up just a home run shy of the cycle in SFA’s 8-3 win over Nicholls State on Friday. He also drove in at least one run in each of the games and now has a double in four of his last five.

PITCHER

Ryan Proudfoot, UTSA, So., RHP, Lindale, Texas

Proudfoot tossed his second consecutive complete game on Wednesday night at No. 25 Texas to set the tone for a perfect 4-0 week for the Roadrunners. The Lindale native scattered eight hits, allowed just one run, walked one and struck out six in improving to 6-2 on the season. He threw 76 of his 121 pitches for strikes and now has allowed only one earned run on a dozen hits over his past 18 innings. It was UTSA’s first win against the Longhorns since a 14-10 victory on April 18, 2006, at Wolff Stadium and the first at Disch-Falk Field since an 11-10 decision on Feb. 9, 1999.
