CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville sophomore Justin Schumer (Charlotte, N.C.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while Radford senior Eric Evans (Mobile, Ala.) has been named New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played April 21-27, it was announced today by the League office.
Schumer went 10-for-21 (.476) from the plate last week to lead Asheville to four wins. He was picked up a win on the mound. The week started in herioc fashion as not only did he pitch the final four innings of the game against future Big South member Gardner-Webb, but he also went 4-for-4 from the plate with four RBI. The biggest hit was a lead-off, walk-off home run to start the bottom of the 12th inning, which also made him the winning pitcher. For the week, Schumer drove in seven runs, scored nine times, had three doubles, one home run, four walks, a .762 slugging percentage, .500 on-base average, three mult-hit games and RBIs in four of his five outings. He also tossed four scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and four strikeouts against Gardner-Webb.

Evans scattered six hits, struck out five batters and did not issue a walk. He allowed only one Bulldog hitter to make it to second base or beyond.
