FRESNO, Calif. The Fresno State baseball team rallied to a 5-4 win over the University of San Francisco on Wednesday night at Pete Beiden Field.

The win ups the Bulldogs record to 25-17 while USF dropped to 23-18. Fresno State scored its five runs on six hits as Ryan Overland, Gavin Hedstrom, Alan Ahmady, Steve Detwiler, Tommy Mendonca and Jake Johnson all had hits for the Dogs.

The Bulldogs trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning but came back and won thanks to the base running of Detwiler in the eighth and a game-potential tying throw out from right field in the ninth.

Ahmady opened the eighth with a single down the left field line. A batter later with one out, Detwiler walked. Then Mendonca singled home Ahmady to tie the game on a shot to left field. Detwiler would then advanced to third on a wild pitch by USF pitcher Alex Kalogrides and then scored the game-winning run on a throwing error by catcher Travis Higgs.

USF threatened to tie the game in the top of the ninth as Joey Railey and Connor Bernatz singled to open the inning. But as Railey attempted to go to third on Bernatz’s single to right field Detwiler threw perfect throw to get Railey out at third.

USF took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning but the Bulldogs came back with three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. With one out Hedstrom doubled to right field and later advanced to third on a ground out by Erik Wetzel.

Steve Susdorf then walked and Ahmady followed with a walk to load the bases. The Dogs scored their first run of the game when Nick Hom walked with the bases still loaded. Susdorf and Detwiler would later score on wild pitches to give the Dogs the 3-1 lead.

The Dons came back with a run in the fifth, seventh and then took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning.
