The CBB made the trip to Worcester MA to watch the second doubleheader between Lafayette and Holy Cross on April 20th. The Crusaders entered the double dip in sole possession of first place in the Patriot League with a one game lead. In Game 1, The Crusaders sent senior left handed pitcher Matt O’Brien for his final scheduled start at Fitton Field as he took on freshman Zach Fritz. Both pitchers were largely ineffective throughout with Fritz lasting only 3.2 innings while giving up all three Crusader runs on three hits and four walks. O’Brien lasted 4.2 innings while giving up five hits and four runs (only one earned). Dan Seip came in to relieve O’Brien where he gave up two runs in the sixth inning including a solo home run by Ian McCutcheon. The two runs in the sixth inning gave the Leopards a 6-3 lead which they were able to hold onto to grab the victory.
In Game 2, Lafayette starter Corey Shea was rocked in his 1.1 innings of work as he allowed four runs on five hits with a walk. The Crusaders dominated the game throughout as they cruised to the 12-5 victory. HC starter Mike Thater was solid in his eight innings of work as he only allowed three hits without allowing any walks. HC’s offense was led by Gil Gomez who went 2-3 with a huge three run first inning homer and a total of four RBI. Eric Oxford went 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored. The leading Lafayette hitter was Justin Sheppard who went 2-3 with four RBI.
The CBB would like to thank Michelle Bradley of HC Media Relations for taking care of us at the game today by providing all the information that we needed throughout the contests.
