FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as senior 1B Trent Lockwood, Northwestern State senior 1B Mike Jaworski and Texas State senior right hander Steven Siers are awarded weekly honors. Lockwood and Jaworski each claim their second honor of the season tying for the league lead. Siers earns his first and team’s first for Texas State. UTSA leads the total team count with four awards on the year with three consecutive.
HITTER
Trent Lockwood, UTSA, Sr., 1B, Groesbeck, Texas
Lockwood powered UTSA to a three-game sweep at Northwestern State last weekend and into sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference standings (squad is 11-4 in league play). In a series that saw the Roadrunners outscore the Demons by 18 runs (33-15), the Groesbeck native was the catalyst, as he hit .538 (7-for-13) with four home runs and 13 RBIs. The 2007 SLC Newcomer of the Year also registered a whopping 1.462 slugging percentage on the strength of 19 total bases and reached base at a .625 clip, as he was intentionally walked three times. Lockwood opened the weekend by going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and five RBIs in UTSA’s 10-4 victory on Friday night. He followed that performance with a pair of hits, a long ball (three-run shot) and five more RBIs in the Roadrunners’ 11-9 win on Saturday. Lockwood then wrapped up his impressive three days with two bombs and three RBIs in the 12-2 triumph in the series finale. A member of the 2008 Wallace Award watch list, he is hitting .326 with a team-leading nine homers and league-best 48 RBIs for the 24-11 Roadrunners, who have won six of their last seven contests (all on the road) and 10 of 13 overall. Lockwood has knocked eight balls out of the park, recorded 26 RBIs, hit .415 (17-for-41) and posted a 1.024 slugging percentage (42 total bases) in his last 11 games.
Mike Jaworski, NWLA, Sr., 1B, Houston, Texas
Jaworksi had a career week for the Demons, blasting five home runs in five games, to go along with 10 RBIs. He set a new school record with three home runs in a game on Saturday against UTSA with a career-best five RBIs.

PITCHER
Steven Siers, TXST, Sr., RHP, Georgetown, Texas
Steven Siers made his first mid-week start against No. 18 Houston and pitched for one inning, holding the Cougars to just two hits and one run. Siers then opened the Saturday contest against Southeastern Louisiana and led the Bobcats to an 11-0 seven-inning victory, Siers first career shutout. In the 87-pitch performance, Siers had six strikeouts and retired 18 consecutive batters to close out the game. SELU managed just one hit against the hurler.
