The College Baseball Blog and StatStud.com have teamed up this season to bring a weekly award for the top players in the last week. We will select one pitcher and hitter every week throughout the regular season. This week Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State is our selection for Pitcher of the Week while Jacob Priday of Missouri grabs the Player of the Week award.

Stephen Strasburg had an outstanding outing on Friday evening against the Utah Utes were he pitched a complete game one hitter in a 1-0 victory for the Aztecs. He struck out 23 batters for the highest total since 1981 when Miami’s Neal Heaton struck out 23 against Indiana State. The weird part is that Strasburg missed his start last week with a viral infection in his ear so he was trying to get back his strength for the rest of the season.

Jacob Priday had a monster weekend which saw him bat .583 in the weekend series against the Texas Longhorns. In Friday’s 31-12 victory, he went 5-5 with four homers, nine RBI, and six runs scored. On Saturday, he went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He is back in action on Wednesday when they play William Woods.

Only reason Priday was selected was that Texas did not pitch on Friday and the 40 MPH wind helped out:)

I will say I happen to agree with DJ. Priday did all his damage on a day where he accounted for 9 of 31 or 32 runs. Aaron Crowe gave up something like 9 runs. That tells you the wind in Austin was the Hitter of the Week.
