ATLANTA, Ga. — One day after the death of Georgia Tech pitcher Michael Hutts, the Yellow Jackets took the field and played 2 against the country’s top-ranked team. The combination of a distracted Yellow Jacket team and the potent Hurricanes offense led to two Miami victories, 10-5 in the first game and 15-5 in the second.
Center fielder Blake Tekotte led the Hurricanes, going 7-for-10 in the two games, scoring 6 runs. Second baseman Jemile Weeks and catcher Jason Hagerty both went 5-for-9 in the doubleheader. Starting pitchers Chris Hernandez and Enrique Garcia took the wins for the Hurricanes.
For the Yellow Jackets, both right fielder Charlie Blackmon and designated hitter Luke Murton went 4-for-10 in the doubleheader, each with a home run. Starters David Duncan and Eddie Burns take the losses for Tech.
Game 3 of the series takes place at 1pm Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
