The 8th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team shutout the University of Dallas in a weather shortened eight-inning game on Tuesday night at Irwin Field, 15-0.
Junior Jeremy Harding (Houston, Texas) broke an American Southwest Conference record by hitting his third grand slam homerun of the season in the 6th inning. Harding now holds the conference records for grand slam homeruns in a season and in a career. Harding also hit two doubles on the day.
Senior Corey Farra (Lewisville, Texas) had just one hit on the day, but he made it count as he hit a two RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior Beau Ziegler (North Wales, Pa.) picked up the win, as he allowed no runs off of three hits with four strikeouts in five innings. Ziegler now stands at 3-2 on the year. Relievers Kody Evans (LaRue, Texas) and Matt Hinds (Plano, Texas), along with Ziegler, picked up the combined shutout.
The Patriots are now 28-6 on the season, while Dallas is now 18-11.
UT Tyler returns to Irwin Field for their final regular-season home series on Friday and Saturday against Louisiana College. Game time on Friday is scheduled 6 p.m. and Saturday’s doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
