WEST DIVISION
Derek David, 3B, Sr., McMurry
McMurry senior third baseman Derek David (Richmond, TX / B.F. Terry) became the ASC’s single-season home run leader and first NCAA Division III player in history to homer in seven consecutive games as his club won a West Division series against Concordia Texas. David hit five home runs in the series, including three in one game which tied a conference mark, to bring his season total to 19 – passing the mark of 17 set by McMurry’s Josh Lee in 2004 and Texas Lutheran’s Aaron Crais in 2005. David, who takes the division’s top hitting honor for the second straight week, broke the NCAA record of six set by Ohio Wesleyan’s Eric Heise in 1998. David also drove in 10 runs and scored eight times in the series.
Tim Kriegel, RHP, So., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons sophomore right-hander Tim Kriegel (Round Rock, TX / RRHS) tossed a complete game with 11 strikeouts to defeat Howard Payne and give the Cowboys a West Division series sweep. It was the first complete game for HSU since the 2006 season. Kriegel allowed just one earned run and scattered nine hits over the nine-inning game.
EAST DIVISION
David Smith, OF, Jr., Ozarks
Ozarks junior outfielder David Smith (Rowlett, TX / RHS) paced a 4-0 week, including an ASC East Division sweep of Louisiana College, by going 13-for-19 from the leadoff spot. Smith scored eight runs, hit a double, drove in four runs and had a pair of 4-for-5 games. He was also 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts.
Blake Booher, RHP, Jr., Texas-Tyler
Texas-Tyler junior right-hander Blake Booher (Hurst, TX / L.D. Bell HS) tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts to beat LeTourneau in ASC East Division play. Booher, who takes the division’s top pitching honor for the second straight week, is now 8-0 and has a 19-inning scoreless streak spanning three starts.
HITTERS: Texas-Tyler 1B/C Core Farra hit three home runs and two doubles to pace a 4-0 week. . . . Texas-Dallas 2B Chris Biguenet hit three doubles and two home runs with 10 RBI over two games. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor OF Joseph Villegas hit for the cycle against Schreiner and batted .500 on the week with six extra-base hits. . . . Hardin-Simmons C/DH Reagan Dixon hit .600 with two homers, the first of his career, and 11 RBI over five games. . . . Texas Lutheran OF Kyle Harvey batted .611 with a homer and seven RBIs over four games. . . . . Concordia Texas SS Bryan Jacobs batted .538 over three games. . . . Howard Payne OF Taylor Zambreski batted .476 over five games.
PITCHERS: Ozarks RHP Todd Koch went 8 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts to beat Louisiana College. . . . . Schreiner RHP Kevin Jones threw a complete-game with four strikeouts to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor. . . . Texas Lutheran RHP Robert Conley won two games in relief against Sul Ross State without allowing a run over seven innings. . . . Howard Payne RHP Mason Rihn threw 5 1/3 innings of shutout relief against Hardin-Simmons. . . . McMurry RHP Cody Curry got the win over Concordia-Texas, striking out 10 over 5 1/3 innings.
