UT-Tyler Comes Up Big Against LeTourneau, Booher Tosses One-Hitter

LONGVIEW, Texas — The 7th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team put up 29 runs Saturday and the Patriots shutout LeTourneau in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader sweep . The Patriots took the first game 10-0 and followed up with a 19-0 win in the game two.

The Patriots got the scoring started in the third inning when junior Jeremy Harding (Houston, Texas) hit a grand slam to put UT Tyler up, 4-0.


In the sixth inning, senior Corey Farra (Lewisville, Texas) hit a homer of his own – a solo shot to left field that gave the Patriots an 8-0 lead.

In the seventh, freshman Nick Clifton (Gladewater, Texas) got in on the action by hitting the Patriots’ third home run of the day. Clifton’s two-RBI shot gave the Patriots their final score of the game, as UT Tyler won 10-0.

Junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) allowed just three hits and struck out four batters on the way to his eighth win of the year.

In game two, LeTourneau still had no answer for UT Tyler’s hitting and the Patriots put up 19 runs off of 20 hits.

UT Tyler hit four homeruns in the second game as senior Clay Baker (Henderson, Texas), senior Kyle Braden (Carrollton, Texas), sophomore Michael Caggiano (Sugar Land, Texas), and Farra all went yard in the game. Braden’s homerun was the Patriots’ second grand slam of the day.

Junior Jared Hood went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two triples.

Junior Blake Booher (Hurst, Texas) struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit as he picked up his eighth win of the season.

With the wins, UT Tyler improves to 26-6 on the year and 9-2 in the ASC, while LeTourneau falls to 8-19-1 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

The Patriots and Yellow Jackets will return to action tomorrow in Longview at 2 p.m. to finish out the three-game series.
