UT-Tyler Clinches Playoff Spot with Win at LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas — The 7th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler clinched their first ever American Southwest Conference post-season berth on Sunday with a 14-1 win over LeTourneau in Longview.

UT Tyler once again proved its offense was just too powerful for the Yellow Jackets, as they out hit LeTourneau 18-to-5. Of the Patriots’ 18 hits, 13 of the hits were multiple base hits, including seven homeruns.

Senior Clay Baker (Henderson, Texas), senior Corey Farra (Lewisville, Texas), senior Andrew Damewood (Plano, Texas), junior Jeremy Harding (Houston, Texas), junior Chris Tucker (Flower Mound, Texas), and junior Jared Hood (Marshall, Texas) all hit homeruns on the day. Damewood would go onto double dip and hit two homeruns on the day.

Senior Ryan Campbell (Tomball, Texas) allowed no runs off of three hits through eight innings of work. Campbell struck out seven batters in the game and picked up his sixth win of the year.

With the win, UT Tyler improves to 27-6 overall and 10-2 in the ASC, while LeTourneau falls to 8-20-1 and 2-10 in league play.

The Patriots will return to action on Tuesday with they host the University of Dallas at 6 p.m. at Irwin Field.
