Erik Davis(Stanford, CA) – The Cardinal hit the ball all around Sunken Diamond on Saturday afternoon, and on three occasions out of the park as well. Stanford scored early and then often, while Senior Erik Davis went the distance and gained the win, humbling the high powered Arizona State offense.

Right from the start, Stanford was aggressive as leadoff hitter Cord Phelps singled to left field. Junior Jeff Whitlow struck out, but Jason Castro also singled to left before Sean Ratliff doubled to right field. Ben Clowe followed with a walk before Brendan Domaracki singled to drive in the third and final run of the inning.

ASU never really got on track as Erik Davis seemed to constantly be ahead on the count, while striking out five Devils on the afternoon. Petey Paramore provided the lone offensive highlight for the maroon and gold, an eighth inning home run to right field.

There were plenty of offensive highlights for the Cardinal as Castro had four hits including a home run and scored three times, while Zach Jones had three singles.

By the time it was all over Stanford hung 12 runs and 17 hits on the Sun Devils, and gave ASU only its second loss of the year. The deciding game of the series will get underway Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
