The seventh-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team avenged and early season away loss to Hardin-Simmons in a big way on Tuesday night at Irwin Field, by downing the Cowboys, 17-6.

It was a big night offensively for UT Tyler, as they out hit Hardin-Simmons 25-to-10 and scored in every inning but the final one. Senior Clay Baker (Henderson, Texas) and junior Jared Hood (Marshall, Texas) both hit homeruns on the evening. Junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) went 5-for-6 with three runs, three doubles and two RBIs, while junior Kendall Fox (Carrollton, Texas) went 2-for-3 with three walks and two runs.

Junior Kody Evans (LaRue, Texas) picked up the win on the mound for UT Tyler, allowing no runs off of one hit while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings of work. The win was Evans’ first win of the season.

The win lifts the Patriots to 24-6 on the season, while Hardin-Simmons falls to 14-13.

The Patriots will now travel to LeTourneau on Friday for the first game of a three-game American Southwest Conference series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m.
