FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as first basemen Trey Hernandez of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTSA Trent Lockwood earn co-player of the week honors. For the third consecutive week Southeastern Louisiana claims weekly honors as starting pitcher Wade Miley receives his first accolade of the season, giving the Lions three awards on the year for top marks in the SLC.
HITTER
Trey Hernandez, AMCC, Fr., 1B/RHP, Robstown Texas
In five games on offense last week, the freshman first baseman hit..714 at the plate with a 1.381 slugging percentage and a .731 on-base percentage. He finished the week with 12 RBI and seven runs scored. Eight of his 15 hits on the week were for extra bases. After going 1-for-3 against TCU in the second of a DH, Hernandez tied a school record with five hits at No. 20 Baylor in an 11-8 loss. He was 5-of-5 with with two RBI and a run scored. In the Islanders three game series with Nicholls State, the freshman was 9-of-13 from the plate with three home runs. He had two home runs in a single inning in Satuday’s 15-9 win and finsihed the game 4-or-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. He had his third home run in Sunday’s series finale going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and two runs scored.
On top of that the dual threat pitched a complete game against TCU in the first of the DH. He pitched 8-1/3 scoreless innings before TCU scored the game’s only run with one out in the bottom of the ninth. He scattered seven hits, walked two and fanned two in the longest outing of his career.
Trent Lockwood, UTSA, Sr., 1B, Groesbeck, Texas
Lockwood had a record-setting week, as the Roadrunners posted three wins in five games. The senior first baseman hit .474 (9-19) with eight runs scored, a double, four home runs and 13 RBIs. The Groesbeck native also posted a remarkable 1.158 slugging percentage on the strength of 22 total bases and reached base in half of his 24 plate appearances. After starting the week with an 0-for-3 performance against No. 20 Texas A&M, Lockwood exploded for nine hits in his next 16 at-bats, which was good for a .563 batting average. Included in that total was a 4-for-5, five-run, three-homer, 9-RBIs performance on Wednesday against Prairie View A&M. He broke the school’s single-game record for RBIs and tied the mark for long balls, runs scored and hits in an inning (two in the third), as UTSA set a program-record for runs in a 27-4 victory. Lockwood went on to go 5-for-11 (.455) with a double, homer and four RBIs in the weekend set with UT Arlington. The preseason first-team All-SLC pick is hitting .327 with a dozen doubles, five home runs and 35 RBIs for a Roadrunners offense that is hitting .329 and averaging 8.7 runs per game this year.

PITCHER
Wade Miley, SLU, Jr. LHP, Loranger, La.
Southeastern junior southpaw Wade Miley picked up his second complete game of the season on Friday night. The Loranger, La. native tied teammate Josh Black for the 2008 single-game strikeout mark for a Southeastern pitcher with 12. Miley limited the Cowboys to just one earned run on seven hits while walking just two.
