The Anteaters, who got on the board on Jeff Cusick’s RBI single in the third, tied the game with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth. However, Cal Poly responded with two runs in the sixth on a run-scoring double off the bat of Brent Morel and a UCI error.
Ben Orloff paced UCI, going 3 for 5 while Cusick was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Starter Bryce Stowell suffered his first loss of the season after giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out five in six innings.
Mauldin picked up the win (2-3), holding UCI to just two hits while striking out four and walking two. Cal Poly starter Derrick Saito struck out six in 4.1 innings while surrendering two runs on five hits in the no-decision.
