ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia Tech hit 7 home runs today in a 17-4 victory over the Alabama State Hornets. Freshman shortstop Derek Dietrich went 3-for-3 with 2 homers and a double. First baseman Tony Plagman also had 2 home runs, and outfielder Jay Dantzler added 3 hits to lead the Yellow Jackets’ offense.
Brandon Cumpton pitched 6 strong innings to earn his first collegiate victory. Zeb Hilburn gave up 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss for Alabama State.
Georgia Tech (19-5, 5-4 ACC) travels north this weekend to take on Boston College (11-11, 2-7 ACC). Alabama State (9-10, 4-8 SWAC) returns home to take on Fisk University on Thursday.
