RICHARDSON, Texas – Junior right-hander Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) was named East Division Pitcher of the Week for games played between March 17 and March 23 by the American Southwest Conference on Monday afternoon.
In Holland’s only appearance on the week, he helped guide the 4th-ranked Patriots to a 2-1 win over No. 17 Ozarks. In his complete game win, Holland allowed just one run on six hits, while striking out seven batters over seven innings of work. The junior finished the week with a 1.29 ERA and held his opponents to a batting average of .240. After giving up one run in the top of the first, Holland held the Eagles scoreless for the rest of the game.
Holland’s opponent on the day was Curt Dixon. Dixon has already earned National Player of the Week Honors this season. The loss was Dixon’s first of the season
This is Holland’s second Pitcher of the Week honor of the season and the fourth Pitcher or Hitter of the Week honor for UT Tyler on the year.
Holland and the rest of the Patriots will return to the diamond on Tuesday evening in Sherman, Texas. The No. 4 Patriots will take on Austin College at Baker Field starting at 6 p.m.
UT Tyler is one of the newest members of the NCAA, having achieved full membership in the summer of 2007 after a four-year provisional period required of all new members.
