The CBB will be at the Quinnipiac-Holy Cross game on Saturday between the two New England schools. Quinnipiac enters with a 2-8 overall record while Holy Cross is 4-10 on the year. Quinnipiac’s last game was Sunday when they finished a three game set with the Spartans where the Bobcats won the first game but lost the final two. Pete Kummerfeldt is the leading hitter for QU with a .385 average and three homers and 11 RBI on the year. The Bobcats have very little team speed as they have only attempted six stolen bases (three successful) in the first ten games. According to Quinnipiac Media Relations, the starter for the game on Saturday has not been announced but I expect Chris Gloor to see some time on the mound Saturday for them.
Holy Cross enters with a 2-10 record after losing to Lemoyne on Thursday 15-5. The Crusaders started out the season slow as they lost their first five games before going on a four game winning streak and now are marred in a five game losing streak again. So if the pattern continues, the Crusaders would pick up the win on Saturday. The top offensive threat for Holy Cross is supposed to be Brendan Akashian who missed Thursday’s game for undisclosed reasons but has struggled out of the gate as he is only hitting .222 on the year. Jake Gorman has the top batting average for the everyday starters with a .357 average. Junior Steve Soldi made his first start of the season on Saturday where he went 2-3 with a run scored. HC has not named a starter for Saturday’s game but I would expect Mike Thater to get the start as he is 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA.
We will post a full recap on Saturday evening so stay tuned for our report. This will be the first game of the year for me personally as it has been a tough winter and week as many games were canceled.
Special thanks to Ken Sweeten of QU Media Relations for getting us the game notes.
