FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Southeastern Louisiana out fielder Cass Hargis and Lamar starting pitcher Tim Erickson claimed their first weekly honors of the season, marking four consecutive weeks for a new team and player claim weekly honors.
HITTER
Cass Hargis, SLU, R-Fr., OF, Meraux, La.
Southeastern Louisiana outfielder Cass Hargis hit safely in all five games this week, extending his hitting streak to nine games. The Lions’ leadoff batter hit .650 on the week, picked up an RBI in every game and scored in every game but one. The Meraux native had three multi-hit games getting a pair of hits against Jackson State before going 2-for-3 in Southeastern’s conference opener at Stephen F. Austin and posting a 5-for-5 day in game two against the Lumberjacks that saw his first career grand slam. Hargis, who began the week hitting .357 has his average up to .418.

PITCHER
Tim Erickson, Lamar, Sr., LHP, Sour Lake, Teaxs
The senior left-hander struck out nine and limited opponents to .147 hitting in 10.0 innings Erickson pitched a perfect ninth at ULM on Wednesday with two strikeouts and came out of the bullpen after five batters on Sunday and shut down UTA, working a career-high 9.0 innings of relief for a 9-5 win to clinch the series for Lamar. He struck out seven while allowing just five hits and two of these came in the ninth, and from the 5th to the 9th innings he retired 14-consecutive batters as nine failed to get the ball out of the infield. Erickson has yet to allow a run in 19.1 innings this season.
