The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers exploded for six runs in the first inning off of UNC starter Matt Harvery to cruise to a 11-4 victory over the number 3 ranked Tar Heels. They took advantage of four walks, a hit by pitch, while getting a huge three run double by Chance Gilmore to take control of the game early. Rich Witten had a strong game while going 2-4 with three RBI. The top North Carolina performance in the losing effort was Kyle Seager who went 3-5 with 2 RBI. Matt Harvey was listed on many publication sites as one of the best incoming freshmen in the country including the CBB but has failed to live to his lofty expectations as he has a 1-1 record with a 1.93 ERA but has let up eight runs in 9.1 innings on the year. Scouts during last season stated to the CBB that Harvey would not step foot on the diamond for the Tar Heels as he was expected to be a first round pick in the 2007 MLB draft but slid over because of issues over the ability to sign.
