On an unseasonably cold day in Atlanta, Georgia Tech was able to survive a late inning rally attempt by Virginia Tech and win 6-4, extending their record to 11-1 on the season and 2-0 in the ACC. Starter Eddie Burns struck out 8 in 5 2/3 innings while giving up only one run. The Jackets’ offense was efficient, scoring 6 runs on only 7 hits including home runs by center fielder Jay Dantzler, designated hitter Brad Feltes, and catcher Jason Haniger.

Starting pitcher Sean McDermott took the loss for the Hokies, giving up all 6 runs. Left fielder Sean O’Brien led the Hokies’ offense, going 3-for-5 on the day. Virginia Tech falls to 7-5 on the season and 0-2 in the ACC.

Game 3 of the weekend series is scheduled for 1pm Sunday. Sophomore RHP Zach Von Tersch (1-0, 0.69 ERA) takes the mound for the Yellow Jackets and faces freshman RHP Jesse Hahn (1-0, 4.91 ERA).
