ASU in Hot Water?

The Arizona State Sun Devils recently had to suspend Jason Jarvis for some academic issues from this fall semester. Somehow the Sun Devils were able to get him eligible for last weekend’s tournament hosted by Arizona State where he made a pinch hitting appearance. The East Valley Tribune reported on Tuesday that former player and graduate manager Mikel Moreno was approached by Arizona State compliance officer Bill Kennedy about improper benefits going on in the program. He stated that he told the compliance officer what was going on in the program including ASU players working for Pat Murphy’s non-profit PTM Programs for Youth and players receiving special treatment at the Athletes Performance Institute. Moreno was let go in December from his position with the program so Pat Murphy has tried to make it sound like Moreno is just a disgruntled employee who is just trying to get back at the ASU program. We then see that a new article was just posted that Brendon Macias a former ASU player was approached by Jason Jarvis to take an online test for him. Macias states that he took the first 3-4 questions before Jarvis finished the test. The full article is available here. This is a pretty serious accusation as the NCAA does not deal well with players getting into academic scandals which is similar to the situation with Florida State where the entire athletic department was put under probation for the next 2 years.
