The last time Kenn Kasparek AKA Big Bird, pitch for Texas was back in June ’06. For the last year and Half he has been rehabbing his pitching arm since the Tommy John surgery in ’06. Kenn went 5 innings gave up two hits, two walks and had 5 strikeouts. He threw 67 pitches for his first outing in over a year and a half. Kenn looks healthy and ready to be the main pitcher for this staff that is deep and talented but very young. Kenn is a red-shirt Junior so he will be able to provide leadership to the younger members of the staff. After Kenn threw his 5 in came Riley Boening in for the 6th and the 7th. Riley also miss all of 2007 due to shoulder surgery. He is not as far along a Kenn but, made it be known that he is also ready to eat up some innings this year. In his two innings of work he threw 40 pitches and gave up a run. In the 8th Freshman Stayton Thomas came in to strike out the side in 12 pitches. Marcus Tackett came in the 9th to close the door and sent the Rams packing. This was a great start for the Pitching staff this year as last year they did not have the arms.
