The Boston College Eagles opened the 2008 season with a doubleheader sweep over Georgia Southern. In Game 1, BC won 11-7 and in game 2 the Eagles won 14-7
Game 1
The Eagles were led in Game 1 by a strong freshmen class led by Marc Perdios who went 3-6 with a home run in his first collegiate at bat. Matt Hamlet hit a homer in the seventh inning to give the BC Eagles an 8-7 lead which they held on to for the victory. Garrett Smith was outstanding at shortstop defensively including several turns of double plays. He had a strong day at the plate as he went 3-5 with two runs scored. Eric Campbell hit a towering two run homer as he went 3-5. BC starting pitcher Terry Doyle was poor with his command out of the stretch as he only lasted four innings while giving up seven runs (all earned). J.B. McDonald followed him to the mound as he pitched five shutout innings while allowing only three hits and one walk. He picked up the victory to put his record at 1-0.
Game 2
Boston College had an offensive explosion in Game 2 with Sam Shaughnessy hitting three out of the team seven homers as the BC Eagles cruised to a 14-7 victory over Georgia Southern. BC starter Dan Houston lasted five innings scattering 10 hits while allowing four runs.
