WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Bryant University baseball team wrapped up its season-opening weekend in Florida with a 1-1 day on Sunday, completing the sweep of Northeast-10 rival Bentley College while dropping another contest to host Rollins College.
The Bulldogs took an 8-7 win over the Falcons in the first game on 5-of-5 hitting from senior captain Jason Alexander (two RBI, one run scored) and 3-of-6 hitting from sophomore Taylor Ferguson (one run).
Eric Polvani came in for 3.2 innings of four-hit relief for the win, while senior captain Adam Vuolo notched his first save of the season with a one-hit ninth, striking out one.
In the day’s second game, Bryant suffered a 12-2 loss at the hands of Rollins College, who outhit the Bulldogs, 17-8. Bryant’s only two runs came in the top of the first, both unearned off two Rollins infield errors.
But Rollins came back with five in the bottom of the inning and didn’t stop scoring. The hosts were led by 4-of-5 hitting from Gary Martoccio (3 RBI, 2 runs) and 2-of-3 hitting from Ryan Luker (2 RBI, 2 runs). Matt Griswold took the loss in the effort.
Bryant returns home with a 3-3 record and will next travel to Wilmington, Dela., Feb. 23-24 to take on Wilmington College.
