SAVANNAH, Ga. – It only took just one series for the Ouachita Baptist baseball team to jump back into the top five as the Tigers jumped nine spots to third in the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II poll.
Ouachita Baptist (3-0), which came into the weekend ranked 12th, completed a series sweep Sunday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field in Austin , Texas , winning a wild affair 18-16. The Tigers on the weekend belted nine home runs with a .374 batting average. Ouachita Baptist won the first two games of the series 8-4 and 11-4.
The Tigers are the only team from the Gulf South Conference West Division ranked in the Top 5. Tampa holds the top spot after going 2-0. Mesa State is right ahead of Ouachita Baptist by four points (452-448). Mount Olive is fourth, followed by Gulf South Conference East Division member West Alabama , which swept a three-game series against then-ranked No. 2 Columbus State.
Delta State , after taking a pair against Abilene Christian, jumped four spots to seventh, while Montevallo is 15th. St. Edwards, which entered the weekend against Ouachita Baptist ranked 28th, dropped out of the poll.
The Tigers return to action 2:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8 at Rab Rodgers Field against Upper Iowa . Ouachita Baptist will conclude the series with Upper Iowa 2:00 p.m., Saturday, while playing host to Drury at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
