Two weeks into the Southern Miss fall baseball practice, the pitching is ahead of the hitting.
“No question about it,” Golden Eagle coach Corky Palmer said.
That’s because of a couple of factors. One, most of last season’s top pitchers are returning, plus a couple of newcomers have looked good in the past two weeks.
And two, a couple of last season’s top hitters who are back are hurt.
“I’m real impressed with Josh Billeaud,” Palmer said about the 6-foot-4, 210-pound right-hander from LSU-Eunice Community College. “We knew he threw hard, but didn’t know he had such a good curve and changeup. He will help us.”
