Last weekend was a big one in the Southeastern Conference and Conference USA baseball races.
This weekend will be just as big.
As 11 teams jockeyed for eight spots in the SEC tournament next week in Hoover, Ala., some teams had a rough weekend.
Mississippi State (32-16, 14-11) traveled to Georgia, the last place team in the SEC East, with a chance to make up ground on Arkansas for the SEC West crown.
State opened the series with a win over Georgia, but lost a pair of seven inning contests on Sunday to finish the weekend with a 1-2 mark. Rain forced the Bulldog teams to play a seven inning doubleheader Sunday, and MSU dropped a pair of one-run contests.
In C-USA, Southern Miss (33-19, 11-10) is coming off a three-game sweep of Marshall and a three-game sweep of Dallas Baptist in non-conference play.
USM has won six straight and hits the road for the final weekend traveling to Houston.
