Bryan Henry pitched six shutout innings while only allowing two hits and a walk while striking out nine batters to lead the Noles to the 14-1 blowout victory. The Seminoles offensive leader was Jason Stidham who went 3-4 with a homer, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Peter Hughes left starter Greg Fryman in the game by letting him pitch 5.2 innings while giving up 14 runs (13 earned) on 15 hits. The teams will be back in action on Saturday for Game 2 of the series.

Robert Woodard picked up his 30th career victory to tie Michael Hogg’s school record for career wins. Woodard pitched nine shutout innings while giving up nine hits and walking only one Blue Devil batter. His record heads to 7-0 on the season. Chad Flack is starting to find his stroke again as he went 2-4 with a homer, two runs scored, and an RBI. Alexander Hassan started for Duke and pitched five innings while giving up five runs. His record drops to 2-3 in his freshman season. Tim Sherlock and Ryan McCurdy each had two hits to lead the Blue Devils offense.
Georgia Tech 2 UVA 1 (11 innings)
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets won a pitching duel with the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday with a 2-1 victory. Jeff Ussery laid down a suicide bunt with one out in the 11th inning to drive home Patrick Long with the winning run. Jacob Thompson started for the Cavaliers and went 7.2 innings while giving up one unearned runs on six hits. Jake Rule ended up getting the loss for the Cavs by giving up three hits and a run in the 11th inning. His record drops to 2-3. David Duncan started for Georgia Tech and went seven innings while giving up one run on six hits and two walks. Jared Hyatt pitched four hitless innings to up his record to 6-0.

Clemson 6 Wake Forest 2
The Clemson Tigers got s very strong start from Daniel Moskos who went six strong innings in his second career start while only giving up a single run. His record goes to 3-2 on the season. The Clemson offense was led by Wilson Boyd and Brad Chaulk who each had three hits in the game. Wake Forest starter Brad Kledzik also pitched 6.0 innings but gave up four runs on ten hits. Kledzik’s record goes to 3-3. Michael Murray hit a solo homer in the game to lead the Deacons offense.

NC State 5 Miami 3
Vince Gutierrez scored the go-ahead run after two bad throws on a pickoff play allowed him to score and Joe Florio hit a two-out single to drive in another run to lead the Wolfpack to the 5-3 victory. Jeff Stallings got the win by working the final two innings without allowing a run. Alex Koronis got the loss for the Hurricanes by working 1.2 innings while letting up two runs on no hits but two walks. Caleb Mangum led the Pack offense by going 1-5 with a two run homer in the 3rd inning. Yonder Alonso and Dennis Raben each had three hits in the losing effort.

Game 1: Boston College 5 Maryland 3
Game 2: Maryland 7 Boston College 4
The Boston College Eagles and Maryland Terrapins split a doubleheader on Friday as the teams decided to play a doubleheader due to the impeding weather heading into the Maryland area on Sunday. Boston College received stellar starting pitching in Game 1 as Kevin Boggan pitched eight strong innings while only giving up two hits and one run. He handed the ball over to Geoff Oxley who got into some trouble in his 0.2 innings of work. The score was 5-3 with the winning run up to bat in Chad Durakis but Terry Doyle picked off Mike Murphy to end the game. Boggan ups his record to 3-4 and Doyle picked up his third save. In Game 2, Boston College received another strong outing from Nate Jeanes who pitched seven strong innings while giving up three runs (two earned). He was relieved again by Terry Doyle but this time he wasn’t‘ as successful. Doyle entered the game with a tight 4-3 lead. The first batter he faced was Dan Melvin who hit a home run to left field to tie the game up. After the Terps were done knocking Doyle around he had given up four runs on five hits and two walks. Brett Cecil shut down the Eagles bats over the last five outs in the game to get the win to up his record to 4-3 while Doyle’s record goes to 2-3.
