FSU 15 Duke 3

The Florida State offense continued their slaughter on ACC pitching with a 15-3 victory over the Duke Blue Devils in Game 1 of their weekend series. Tony Thomas Jr. had three hits on the night including two homers. He hit his first homer to lead-off the game and hit his other homer in the second inning when the Seminoles tacked on five runs. Bryan Henry continued his strong pitching by going six innings while giving up two runs. The victory tonight was his seventh consecutive to start the season. Alexander Hassan picked up his first collegiate loss by giving up nine runs in 2.2 innings. The teams will continue their series on Saturday with Game 2 with a battle of Tallahassee with native sons Michael Hyde facing Tony Bajoczky at 2:00 pm.

UNC 3 Wake Forest 1

Robert Woodard pitched an absolute gem on Friday evening to take the opener of their weekend set with Wake Forest by a score of 3-1. Woodard went 7.1 innings while only giving up two hits with one of them being a home run for Michael Murray. The homer was Murray’s first career round tripper. Brad Kledzik pitched 6.1 inngs while giving up all three runs. He gave up a two-run homer in the first inning to Dustin Ackley who continued his hitting streak to twenty games with the homer. Andrew Carignan struck out the side in the ninth to get his seventh save of the season while Robert Woodard goes to 6-0 on the season. First pitch for Game 2 is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

Wake Forest Recap

Virginia 3 Virginia Tech 1

The Virginia Cavaliers headed across the state to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies and walked away with a 3-1 victory. Jacob Thompson started the game for the Cavaliers and went seven innings giving up six hits but only one did damage in Luke Padgett’s seventh inning homer. Tim Henry led the Cavs offense with a two run double int he second inning then was driven in by the next batter Greg Miclat to account for all the scoring in the game. Greg Fryman pitched a complete game but picks up his fourth loss of the season. Jacob Thompson now is 7-0 and Casey Lambert got his seventh save by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth. The teams will continue tomorrow with Game 2 at 1:00 pm on RSN.

Miami 10 Clemson 3

The Miami Hurricanes used a 13 hit attack to easily handle the Clemson Tigers by a 10-3 score. Yonder Alonso hit two homers to lead the Hurricane attack while starting pitcher Eric Erickson was strong in his six innings of work and only gave up three runs to get his fourth victory of the season. The teams will continue their series at 7:00 pm.

NC State 24 Boston College 4

The North Carolina Wolfpack used a 24 run performance from their offense over the final six innings to blowout the Boston College Eagles 24-4 on Friday. This was Boston College’s first home game of the season but they were rudely greeted by the Wolfpack offense. Mike Roskopf went 4-6 with two homers and six RBIs to lead the Wolfpack bats. BC starter Kevin Boggan gave up ten runs in his 4.2 innings of work to give him an overall record of 2-3 on the season. NC State starter Eric Surkamp went six innings while giving up two runs. NC State pitcher Joey Cutler picked up a save by working the final three innings which was his second save of the season. BC and NC State return to Shea Field on Saturday with first pitch scheduled at 1:00 pm. The College Baseball Blog will have two staff covering the game on Saturday.

Georgia Tech 5 Maryland 4

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth off of All-American closer Brett Cecil to pick up an exciting 5-4 victory on Friday evening. The game was tied as they entered the top of the ninth with one out Steve Braun hit a solo homer to put the Terps up 4-3. Georgia Tech was able to tie the game on a Danny Payne single to center field in the bottom of the ninth with one out when Luke Murton stepped to the plate and proceeded to hit a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Jeff Ussery with the winning run. Brett Cecil picked up his third loss of the season while Brad Rulon gets his first victory. The teams continue their series with the first pitch at 1:00 pm.
