The North Carolina Tar Heels picked up a victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Friday by a score of 7-5. They were led by a key home run by Seth Williams who provided some insurance in the two run victory over the Hurricanes. Robert Woodard provided a solid pitching performance until he was roughed up for 3 runs in the sixth inning. He went 5.0 innings while giving up those three runs while striking out five. Woodard now is 4-0 on the season and 27-3 in his career. The Tar Heels and Hurricanes will be back in action Saturday with a first pitch at 1 pm.

The Hokies of Virginia Tech picked up an upset victory over Georgia Tech on Friday with a 5-3 victory. The Hokies were led by a strong pitching performance from Greg Fryman who went 6.2 innings while surrendering 2 runs only one was earned to the Yellow Jackets. The Hokies were led on offense by Bryan Thomas who hit a huge three run homer in the fourth inning to put the Hokies in the lead for good. Warren Schaffer also had two hits on the afternoon for the Hokies. The battle of the Tech’s will continue on Saturday at 1 pm.

Wake Forest 8 Virginia 3
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons picked up a big 8-3 victory over the number 4 ranked Cavaliers of Virginia. Sean Doolittle had a rough outing giving up five runs in his 6.1 innings of work. Willy Fox of Wake Forest went 2-4 on the day with both hits being long balls. This included his two run blast off of Doolittle which was his first allowed round tripper of the season. Dustin Hood of Wake Forest also went 3-5 on the day to help out the Deacons offense. Greg Miclat, Sean Doolittle, David Adams, and Brandon Guyer had multiple hit games for the Cavs. The Cavs and Demon Deacons will continue their series with a 1 pm start.

Maryland 6 NC State 3
Casey Baron gave the Terps a great outing of 6.2 innings while giving up 2 runs (none earned) to lead the Terps to a solid 6-3 victory over the NC State WolfPack. Andrew Brackman pitched a complete game for the Pack but it was not enough as he gave up six runs in those nine innings. The Terps used a balanced attack as five different players drove in runs as the Terps were limited to six hits in the game. Joe Florio went 2-2 in a pinch hitting role to lead the WolfPack offense. The teams will be back in action on Saturday with game 2 of the series with a 2 pm start.

The Boston College Eagles picked up a victory over the Blue Devils on Friday afternoon by a score of 3-1. The Eagles were led by a strong pitching performance from Kevin Boggan who pitched seven innings while only giving up one unearned run and three hits to pick up his second win of the season. Terry Doyle pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to pick up the save. Tony Sanchez had a run scoring single in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Eagles to the victory. Ryan Hutchinson and Joseph Ayers each picked up an RBI in the victory. Alexander Hassan picked up two hits in the game for the Blue Devils to be the only hitter to have a multiple hit game. Tony Bajoczky picked up the loss by going 7.1 innings while giving up two runs on two hits. Bajoczky record drops to 3-1 on the young season. The teams will be back in action on Saturday with a 2 pm start.

The Florida State Seminoles picked up a 6-0 victory over the Hoosiers on Friday night. They used an eight inning appearance from Bryan Henry who scattered six hits to pick up his fifth win of the season. D’Vontrey Richardson went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Seminoles offense in addition to a 2-3 performance from Mark Hallberg. Keith Haas and Reid Briglia picked up two hits a piece in the losing effort for the Hoosiers. The teams will play game 2 of the series at 6 pm on Saturday.

The Memphis Tigers picked up a 10 inning victory over the Clemson Tigers by a score of 6-4 on Friday evening. Josh Irvin picked up a two run single in the top of the tenth inning and Will Hudgens got the final three outs to pick up the victory over the Clemson Tigers. All-American pitcher Daniel Moskos was on the mound in the top of the tenth to pick up his first loss of the season. The teams will be back in action on Saturday with a first pitch at 2:00 pm.
