SEATTLE – Dave Nakama, who has been a member of the Washington baseball coaching staff the last two seasons, has been promoted to associate head coach, Lindsay Meggs announced today.
“I’m very pleased to announce that Dave Nakama has been promoted to the position of associate head coach at the University of Washington,” Meggs, the UW’s third-year head coach, said. “Even though Dave’s primary responsibility has been to coordinate our recruiting, he has contributed across the board in every way possible as we continue to build this program.
“While Dave will continue to both coordinate the recruiting and work with our hitters,” Meggs continued, “having him more involved in shaping the future of this program is great for Husky Baseball.”
Nakama, the former head coach at San Francisco State, spent 10 years as an assistant coach at Stanford prior to arriving at the UW. A graduate of Willamette College in Oregon, Nakama has also coached at Northern Colorado, Iowa, and several western junior colleges.
The 2012 UW baseball team reports for fall workouts later this month and holds its first full-squad practice on Sept. 17. The Huskies open the 2012 season February 17, 2012, at San Diego State.
